During the worldwide lockdown a year or so back The Outlaw Orchestra continued writing and recording, keeping us entertained on a weekly basis with video cover songs recorded from their various corners of the UK.  That collection of covers ended up as a release on digital music platforms named 'Under The Covers'. 

"We never intended those covers to be reviewed in the music press, what started out as a way to beat the lockdown blues was picked up and gained momentum, folk loved it and we had a blast working together at virtual distance" said frontman Dave Roux.

Having released their 2nd full album 'Makin' Tracks' in October 2021 to overwhelming reviews the ensuing festivals and gigs have kept them hard on the road with little chance to book studio time for new material. However the band explain:

"When backstage hanging with other bands and musicians, we like to warm up the fingers and voices jamming out covers. Everyone joins in, the bottle tops start to collect pretty fast and within an hour we're stage ready.  This is how we started out, busking around the kitchen table swapping instruments. Someone backstage said 'you guys should record these, they're great fun'. So with the help of portable technology we captured the more polished versions of our backroom jams into another collection of our favourite covers."

'Back Under The Covers' demonstrates the guys' breadth of tastes from The Beatles' 'Come Together', The Small Faces' 'Itchy Coo Park' via The Bands' 'Up On Cripple Creek' and having toured with Phil Campbells Ba***** Sons there's a stripped-back version of Motorheads' 'Iron Fist'.  They flex their heavier rock personality as well showing their country roots and love of British 60'/70's rock.

It was recently said in a live review "What makes them an Orchestra? They're a three piece." It's probably due to the plethora of instruments they play at any gig, its an Orchestra's worth of strings; Banjo, Mandolin, Lap Steel, Pedal Steel, Guitars, Baritone guitars and every percussive instrument you can fit in a van. All of these make their way onto the new collection of tracks.

Dave Roux surmises "Its our salute to our heroes and record collections that keep us inspired."
